Judgment Day

This morning I was reading in Matthew 12:36-37 a passage many of us are familiar with. Christ says, “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” This thought frightens me. How nice and easy it would be to shove this in the closet of “Not-Church-Related-Stuff”…to remove accountability to these words. But since this is not a hermeneutically-allowed trick, I am left to examine whether my words today will justify or condemn me. “Today, if I will hear His voice, and not harden my heart as in the days of the rebellion…” Will my words (will your words) vindicate or condemn you…today? Is my heart (and therefore my words) full-of-faith (faithful) today? Lord, may it be so.
